Please ensure you allow 5 working days for all repeat prescription requests
*Please note when we have Protected Learning Time Afternoons, the dispensary will also be shut along with the surgery.*
The National Health Service (Charges for Drugs and Appliances) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (‘the Amendment Regulations’) have today been laid before Parliament to increase certain National Health Service charges in England from 1 April 2023.
We have applied an inflation rate of 3.21%. This year we have increased the prescription charge by 30 pence from £9.65 to £9.65 for each medicine or appliance dispensed. The cost of prescription pre-payment certificates (PPCs) will also be increased: 3-month PPC increases by £1 to £31.25 and 12-month PPC increases by £3.50 to £111.60. The recently introduced HRT PPC will cost £19.30.
Charges for wigs and fabric supports will also be increased in line with the blended inflation rate, as described above. Details of the revised charges for 2023 to 2024 can be found below.
At Sellindge Dispensary we cannot accept the return of Sharpsafe bins that are given to patients who dispose of needles. All surgeries within the Mid Kent PCN have received the following information:
Ashford Borough Council have notified us that they have stopped accepting sharps boxes at the Gateways and Civic Centre and are directing anyone who brings them in to them to sign up for a home collection instead.
The Council have advised us they are hearing from most patients that they didn’t even know they could have a home collection. Patients are advising the council that their GP surgery has asked them to take it to the council.
Please could you ask staff who issue a sharps box for medical purposes to direct patients to Ashford Borough Council's website for details of collection of used needle boxes once full, direct from the patient's home address.
Collections can be booked regularly (such as monthly) or just on an as and when required basis by patients. The online sharps collection request form can be found on ABC's website (see below) or patients can call 01233 331111.
Many thanks all for your assistance.
These bins can be collected through the council. Information can be found at: https://www.folkestone-hythe.gov.uk/clinical-waste
Or if your postcode comes under Ashford Borough council, information can be found at : https://www.ashford.gov.uk/recycling-waste-and-bins/large-item-collection/sharps-syringes-and-clinical-waste/
Patients will need to inform the dispensary on which day they will be collecting their controlled drugs.
Controlled drugs require stricter guidelines and protocols, therefore will not be ready to pick up until after 10.30am on the day of collection.
Medication review dates are given for the benefit of the patient. Please ensure that when your review date is due, you make an appointment with the nurse for blood tests if required (if unsure please ask at reception) and then with a doctor. This enables the doctor to ensure that your prescribed medication is still appropriate for your medical needs.
Please complete the below form and send the response via email to sellindge.surgery@nhs.net or bring the completed form to Reception.
This is for people that are on a contraceptive and are required to complete a pill check before requesting a repeat of the contraceptive pill.
Please be aware when a prescription request is made through an online service such as My GP or the NHS App, the status of your request will change to "issued" once the request has been accepted by the Dispensary Team.
Please still allow 5 working days before collecting your medication.
Help with NHS costs
In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:
More Information is available at: NHS Prescriptions
Please Note: We are still continuing to ask to see these exemptions upon collection of medications. This is because if you have provided incorrect information, you can result in a fine of £100+ and we no longer keep this information in our system as it is a requirement to show your exemption whenever medication is collected.
To check your exemption certificate is still in date, please use this helpful page: NHS Exemptions
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.
